How to Sell or Transfer a Domain to a New Registrar or Owner

If you wish to transfer one or more of your domains to another registrar or to a new purchaser of your domain, there are several ways to facilitate this.

Transfer Your Domain to Another Registrar

  1. Log into your Happy Dog account to retrieve the EPP/Authorization Code for the domain you are transferring. this is under Domain Registrations > Manage > EPP/Authorization Code (left column). Record the EPP/Authorization Code for later use.

  2. Unlock the domain by clicking the Registrar Lock link in the left column, then click the Disable Registrar Lock button. This will free up the domain for transfer.

  3. Log into your new registrar's account and begin the transfer in process using their procedures. You will need to enter the EPP/Authorization Code that you obtained from your Happy Dog Account.

  4. Once the transfer has been initiated from the new registrar an email will be sent to the domain's Registrant Contact email address with a link in it. Clicking that link  approves the transfer to the new registrar.

  5. There may be other emails sent to the Registrant Contact email address from the new registrar.  Follow the instructions in those to complete the transfer. Domain transfers generally take 2 to 5 days to complete.

Selling Your Domain to a New Owner

  1. If you already have a buyer and the domain registration will remain at Happy Dog then all you'll need to do is supply us with the the contact information of the new owner and we will create a domain account for them and transfer the domain into their account after you accept payment from them.

  2. If the new owner wishes to transfer the domain into their own third party registrar, like GoDaddy, Enom, etc, then you will need to supply them with the EPP/Authorization Code for each of the domains you are transferring to them. Simply follow the steps above under Transfer Your Domain to Another Registrar.

  3. If you don't yet have a buyer and want to advertise your domains to potential buyers, we suggest using a third party domain brokerage to sell your domains. Your domains will get widespread exposure and the brokerage will facilitate the sale and transfer for you, taking a percentage of the sale. The two largest domain brokers are Sedo and GoDaddy.
